Japanese Movie Yamato. The Japanese animation film Rebirth Yamato (宇宙戦艦ヤマト 復活篇 Uchū Senkan Yamato: Fukkatsu Hen), also known as Yamato: Resurrection, is the first part of a planned series of films which are the latest addition to the Space Battleship Yamato saga. With a framing story set in the present day, by flashbacks it tells the story of the crew of the World War II Japanese battleship Yamato.

Yamato was the lead ship of her class of battleships built for the Imperial Japanese Navy shortly before World War II. Directed by Junya Sato and based on a book by Jun Henmi, "Yamato" has a framing story set in the present day and uses flashbacks to tell the story of the crew of the World War II. Japanese film makers are making a movie based off of the Yamato battleship.
